The Town of Leesburg was incorporated in 1958. Leesburg's first Mayor was B.C. Lokey from 1958 to 1979, followed by Bobby Byram from 1979 to 1984, William E. Jones 1984 to 1992, Alfred Tillery 1992
to May 1996, Kellie N. Tillery May 1996 to October 1996, William E. Jones 1996
to October 2000, Edward Mackey October 2000 to the present time. We have election for the Mayor and five Council Members every four years. The next election is August
2008.

Geography

Leesburg is located at 34°10'57.446" North, 85°46'8.350" West (34.182624,
-85.768986)GR1.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 16.7 km²
(6.4 mi²). 16.6 km² (6.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it (0.31%)
is water.
Demographics
As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 799
people, 338 households, and 255 families residing in the town. The population
density was 48.1/km² (124.4/mi²). There were 526 housing units at an average
density of 31.6/km² (81.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 99.12% White,
0.38% Native American, 0.25% Asian, 0.13% from other races, and 0.13% from two
or more races. 0.38% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 338 households out of which 33.1% had children under the age of 18
living with them, 62.4% were married couples living together, 8.3% had a female
householder with no husband present, and 24.3% were non-families. 23.1% of all
households were made up of individuals and 7.1% had someone living alone who was
65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.36 and the average
family size was 2.74.
In the town the population was spread out with 22.5% under the age of 18,
8.9% from 18 to 24, 24.8% from 25 to 44, 29.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.6% who were
65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females
there were 101.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.8
males.
The median income for a household in the town was $34,779, and the median
income for a family was $36,250. Males had a median income of $31,205 versus
$17,895 for females. The per capita income for the town was $15,583. About 12.0%
of families and 16.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including
22.4% of those under age 18 and 13.5% of those age 65 or over.
